Sami Ford- Week 2_Ancient Civilization
(Ancient Egypt Pyramid and Sphinx) (Modern Application-Hotel in Las Vegas)
This week was about Ancient Civilizations. The first place that we learned about was Ancient Egypt. This was the time that the pyramids were being built and it is known as the Old Kingdom or the Age of the Pyramids.
The ancient Egyptians had many rituals and traditions. They entombed their dead masterfully. Pharaohs were buried in the pyramids, along with many of their things, which is why so much ancient furniture survived from this time period.
The Great Hypostyle Hall is located within the Temple of Karnak. Hypostyle is an architectural pattern of a large space with a flat roof supported by rows of columns.

After this time came the new kingdom from 1570-1090 B.C. Keep in mind that Egypt is one of the oldest countries in the world, and therefore their history goes back a lot farther and has had many changes throughout time. During this time there was a lot of interesting furniture made. While the base of the furniture was often made of wood such as cedar, cypress or ebony, they also added extensive decorative features. They are often inlayed furniture with gold, silver, and ivory, and ornamented with precious stones and enamels. They often carved the legs of furniture to look like hoofs, paws, or talons as a symbol of power.
Tutankhamun, or more famously known as King Tut is one of the most well-known pharaohs. Because although he died young, and his pyramid is not the largest, it was an amazing discovery where many artifacts were found.
The ancient Egyptians are known for many things. Pyramids, Hieroglyphics, their lavish clothing and furniture, and embalming.
