This was the time that the pyramids were being built and it is known as the Old Kingdom or the Age of the Pyramids.   The ancient Egyptians had many rituals and traditions. They entombed their dead masterfully. Pharaohs were buried in the pyramids, along with many of their things, which is why so much ancient furniture survived from this time period .   The Great Hypostyle Hall is located within the Temple of Karnak. (Stonehenge--Historic Post-and-Lintel) (Modern take on Post-and-Lintel)   This week we learned about the earliest types of interior design and architecture. In prehistoric times, starting with the Stone Age, there were 3 main types of structure s; Cliff Dwellings, Mud and Thatch, and Stone structures. The very first type of dwellings know n to man are caves, that date back all the way to 17,000 B.C.E.   From there came the Neolithic period, which is construction made from stone. One of the most notable monuments from this period is Stonehenge, used for rituals. Of course, residential homes were also built during this time, which were made from stone bricks, sometimes using mortar, leaving openings to allow light and people to enter , and the hearth being the center of the home.
